B400T/SS100T Brake and Sideslip Testers

B400T/SS100T in Action

System B400T/SS100T Brake and Sideslip Testers for Heavy Duty

Measures Brake Balance on Multi-Axle Vehicles in 60 Seconds or Less

Hunter's B400T utilizes PC-based technology to measure braking forces for every brake on a vehicle: tandem-axle tractors; tractors and semi-trailers; buses; 2-axle vehicles, including passenger cars and light trucks.

Drive On and STOP!

Drive the vehicle onto plates and apply the brakes. Precision load cells automatically measure braking forces and dynamic weight. As each axle is tested, results are displayed on the color monitor. Results are automatically stored and can be printed out at the end of the test… all in 60 seconds or less!

Measures Weight Shift During Braking

The B400T takes into account the rear-to-front weight shift that occurs during braking, resulting in a more accurate evaluation of brake system condition and emergency stopping ability than roller type testers.

Brake Balance Results

Segments inside each “wheel” indicate braking force as a percent of weight; the more segments, the higher brake strength. For an “ideal” vehicle, all segments would be the same length.

It's easy to see which brakes are doing their job. Segments are coded green for pass, red for fail.

Arrows on each axle indicate side-to-side balance, with the green area indicating pull. Arrows below the wheels show adhesion utilization, a measure of braking effectiveness, color-coded for pass or fail.

Service Brake Results

This display provides raw brake force data. Curves plot braking force and dynamic weight. Those at top are for the steer axle, those at bottom are for the drive axle or tandem.

Color-coded bar graphs report the results. Green means the vehicle passes, red indicates a problem.

Static Weight Results

Static weighing is performed automatically as soon as the vehicle comes to rest. The display shows static weight for each wheel, total for each axle and total for vehicle, along with GAWR and GVWR. If an axle is overweight, the accompanying arrow will turn red.

All axle weight limits are user programmable to accommodate different vehicle platforms.

Conclusions

“Plain English” description of vehicle results are color-coded and may be printed.

Green “Passed” is used for all tests that are OK. Red or yellow coded messages are more in-depth and indicate a problem.

60-Second Alignment Check

Hunter's SS100T measures sideslip, or tire scuff, on heavy duty vehicles – an indication of incorrect toe settings on steer axles and of excessive tandem scrub angles on tandem or multi-axle vehicles. Sideslip can also be caused by other mechanical problems.

The system tests tandem-axle tractors; tractors and semi-trailers; tractor, semi-, full-trailer combinations; multi-axle vehicles; buses; 2-axle vehicles including passenger cars. Vehicles with up to 9 axles can be measured in a single test sequence.

Green indicates passable results. Yellow (marginal) and red (fail) results indicate the alignment should be checked.

SS100T can be integrated into B400T or is available as a stand-alone unit.

B400T Identifies Conditions Affecting Brake System Performance

During braking, the stronger axle will lock up first, resulting in loss of steering control or jack-knifing.

Left-to-Right Imbalance
Can cause “pulling” to the stronger side during braking, resulting in a skid. Also detects single weak brakes.

Test Parking or Emergency Brakes
The B400T can test mechanical brakes on a straight truck and spring brakes on an air brake system.

Dynamic Weight and Deceleration
Load cells measure dynamic weight of the axles during braking, and the system calculates vehicle deceleration.

Static Weight
Works as a scale, with accuracy of ± 2%.

Adhesion Utilization
Tells the technician if each brake is doing its fair share of the braking.

Can Test Fully Loaded Vehicles
Single, tandem or triple axle weight can be tested with a full load.

Utilizes State-of-the-Art Technology

  • Console houses a powerful PC-based computer, providing instant test results.
  • Results are displayed on the console's 27”, 19”, or 17” color monitor.
  • Premium color printer is standard equipment, mounts in console.
  • Sensor microprocessors digitally transfer information to and from the computer. Sensors have no moving parts, assuring reliability.
  • Measurement system is recessed into the shop floor to prevent distortion under the weight of heavy vehicles.
  • Heavy duty steel grating provides traction for proper testing, even when tires are slippery from inclement.

Optional Signal Light helps the operator stop correctly every time. Green light means tester is ready; light then goes from yellow to red indicating it is time to stop. (Part # 20–967–1)

Results Can Be Printed Automatically
Printouts serve as a guide for the technicians performing service and provide a permanent record of vehicle status. Results from each vehicle can be stored on disk for computer-based record systems to build an overall picture of fleet brake conditions.
